Let’s be honest - running a business right now, or being the leader of anything right now, is a nightmare. It seems as though there are changes daily that we must stay on top of, plus keeping our employees motivated with positive energy, and striving to meet the needs of our clients - it can be a lot to take on some days. On the flip side, being employed right now can feel like walking on ice, and you may keep your fingers crossed on a regular basis. Plus, aren’t we all just tired? How can you - owners, employees, individuals - continue to stay motivated? How can you continue to show up and put 110% in when the future seems so foggy? For the days you’d rather watch reruns of your favorite show and accomplish nothing, here are some pick-me-ups that may just give you the boost you need.
Go for a walk.
Stop what you’re doing and take a break. Step outside, get some fresh air, and go for a walk. Whether alone, with someone, or with your dog - take a stroll, talk or don’t, and clear your head. Let off steam. Come back ready to work.
Exercise.
Be active! Get your energy up. Do an at-home workout on your break or go for a run. If you’re tense or frustrated, this will help you let off some steam in a productive manner. You’ll feel better and more motivated afterwards. Plus, you’ll get your body’s happy chemicals flowing!
Get yourself that $5 coffee.
Normally we would suggest being financially smart and not spending $5+ on a specialty coffee, but sometimes you just really need to treat yourself. If that’s the pick-me-up you need, then go get your expensive coffee, and get things done!
Find a mantra.
Find a mantra that you stand by, something you really believe in, and hang onto it. Repeat it in your mind when necessary. Use it as a reminder of better days, of hardwork and success. Something that motivates you.
Find someone to lean on.
You aren’t in this alone. Find someone to be your rock. Having someone to vent to, go to for advice, or even just knowing someone is there is enough. We accomplish more together than we ever do alone! Stick with your team, those who rise you up, and you’ll slowly but surely head in the right direction.
