Let’s make a choice not to give up on our bookkeeping this year. This is such an important practice that cannot be neglected. Starting a few simple habits now will keep your books strong, accurate, and constantly updated. Remember to remain consistent with all of these, and contact Skynar Bookkeeping for any questions regarding setting up, cleaning up, or keeping up with your bookkeeping.
Save receipts
It’s easier to keep track of business expenses if you hold onto your receipts. With your smartphone, you can take a photo or screenshot of the receipt and instantly add it as an attachment to an entry in books using QuickBooks. This feature lets you log receipts instantly, so you don’t have to start piles or sit down to log everything at once.
Reconcile monthly
This is so important. We cannot stress how important it is to reconcile your accounts on a monthly, if not weekly, basis. Catch any mistakes now so they’re fixed for the future and won’t impact your financial reports.
Stay on top of invoices
Be consistent and timely when sending and paying invoices. Although we can’t control when others pay us, we can control our own actions. Log when each invoice is sent, paid, and completed. Simply make a note in QuickBooks Online.
Log transactions weekly
Consistently logging transactions is an important habit to start. Don’t wait until you forget and your books become patchy and vague. Log them habitually on Friday’s (or any set day) and then you can release them from your memory for next week’s. Don’t clog up your brain with all the expenses over a month’s time when everything becomes foggy.
Write a note
Utilize the note features in QuickBooks to write yourself a sentence or two to remember any specific information in the future. You’ll thank yourself later when you aren’t filled with questions on an ambiguous entry.
