Don’t forget to give your bookkeeping some love - not just on February 14, but year-round! With Valentine’s Day approaching, we were reminded how much love and attention our books truly deserve. It’s important to provide the same love and care for your books as you do any other relationship - here’s how!
One-on-one attention.
When you sit down with your books, make sure you’re giving them your full attention. Multi-tasking can work in some areas, but not for your bookkeeping. Giving your books the attention they deserve will ensure more detailed records and, hopefully, fewer mistakes. Your bookkeeping will flourish with one-on-one attention.
Consistent care.
Your books need consistent care! That means you need to sit down with your bookkeeping on a regular basis and stick to it. Consistency is key to most every relationship and task. If you want to make a habit of something, it begins with self-discipline and consistency. You will notice in just a short time the benefits of consistently updating your books.
Clear communication.
Be clear with every journal entry and task. Check and re-check the information you enter to ensure accuracy. If you enter information correctly the first time, you will save yourself a headache down the road and your books from a game of Twister. Leaving gaps in your books will lead to confusion and inaccuracy down the road - make sure to provide as much information as possible.
Be open to learning more.
Be open-minded with your bookkeeping. Rather than doing the bare minimum, invest the time to learn new methods to increase efficiency and utilize your software to its fullest capabilities. Watch video tutorials and read how-to guides to uncover new ways to make the most of your bookkeeping.
A little TLC will go a long way! Don’t forget that your bookkeeping is the backbone to your business, and it should be treated as so.
